The Giver Movie Review!

Today I went with my mom and my friend Katie to see The Giver!

"The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver, who is the sole keeper of all the community's memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community's secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined - a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all - a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before."

As a big fan of the book, I was REALLY exited for this to come out. However, from watching the preview (about 6 times :)  I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be very true to the book. It was great, though. There was only one part (Where Jonas Punches his friend Asher) that I really didn't like. Only because in the book Jonas is very gentle and non-violent. He isn't supposed to be very in-your-face or rebellious.  If you loved the book and are looking for a perfectly true to the book movie, then you will be disappointed.  The end is totally different from the one in the book, but Katie and I both agreed that we loved the way they did the ending in the movie, because in the book, certain characters are left hanging and you don't ever know what happens to them. I was very happy with the way that they dealt with these characters.  I can't imagine living in a world without love, color, or feelings. To me, it wouldn't really be living at all if we couldn't have those things. It is such a beautiful film and story.  I walked away from the theater with a deeper appreciation for life's simple moments.

Maleficient Movie Review!

Our family recently went to see Maleficent, (pretty much because I forced them to take me) it was quite good.

   ****
"From Disney comes Maleficent-the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal-an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom-and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well."

I just knew this movie was going to be so cool. I really like all these modern adaptations of classic fairytales (I can't wait for Cinderella!) though I sometimes don't like how they turn the princesses into warriors or rebellious "I don't need a man" types, Maleficent didn't really do that. The end was different, and it's technically a "spoiler" (even though it becomes obvious with the progression of the film) I'ts an obviously feminist, but  really beautiful twist. I really liked the prince's character. It was nice how he questioned kissing a girl he had just met, instead of just being like "oh yeah!"  The special effects were just AMAZING!  It was such a visually stunning film. The characters all had great chemistry and there were lots of humorous and sweet moments throughout the film. And towards the end there was a dragon, so that pretty much made the film for me  :)  (I LOVE dragons in a really weird, nerdy way LOL)  So, yeah. I know my reviews aren't the best, but I really liked this movie, and I think you guys will, too.  Tell me if you have seen Maleficent and what you thought about it!

Captain American: The Winter Soldier ~ Movie Review!

Wow. This is late.  We have been so busy lately! But back in April my dad took me to see Winter Soldier, and it was just...AWESOME. #mindblown  I mean seriously! Best Marvel movie ever made. (and yes, I have seen The Avengers ;)

 *****

"After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, is living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy-the Winter Soldier."

You definitely have to see the first one to understand the sequel, or else you won't get some of the best BOOM! moments. It's really hard for me to describe the film without giving away the best parts! Let's just say all you think you know about S.H.I.E.L.D. and previous occurrences, you don't... LOL.   The action is fantastic, (there is a totally awesome car chase scene that literally kept me on the edge of the theater seat) there are some really funny and totally quotable lines  ("on your left!")  and the acting was great, too.  I really loved how they brought back The Black Widow, (anyone else totally shipping Stevetasha?) and the film has a really great, patriotic message. Captain America is the best!

Oh, and you might wanna stay 'till the end of the credits. Trust me. (and I mean the VERY end)

Divergent Movie Review!

I saw Divergent recently (!) and decided I would do a review on it, so here you go!

   ****

"DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late."

I really liked this movie! It was really well done, true to the book, and had some great acting from the cast.  I had looked up a guide of the "questionable material" beforehand to get an idea of what to expect, as the book had a few slightly inappropriate parts and I knew that in today's day and age, they would be sure to include these parts in the movie. However, the major weird part from the book wasn't exaggerated in the film. The scene was quick and definitely not as bad as I thought it would be! So that was a pleasant surprise.  Other than that, there were just two noticeable bad words  (in the same scene) and obviously quite a bit of violence. No one likes to see their favorite character get beat up  :(  The movie had some REALLY COOL scenes: the zipline scene, for example was beautiful! And all the action scenes were great!
