The Giver Movie Review!

Today I went with my mom and my friend Katie to see The Giver!

"The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver, who is the sole keeper of all the community's memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community's secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined - a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all - a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before."

As a big fan of the book, I was REALLY exited for this to come out. However, from watching the preview (about 6 times :)  I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be very true to the book. It was great, though. There was only one part (Where Jonas Punches his friend Asher) that I really didn't like. Only because in the book Jonas is very gentle and non-violent. He isn't supposed to be very in-your-face or rebellious.  If you loved the book and are looking for a perfectly true to the book movie, then you will be disappointed.  The end is totally different from the one in the book, but Katie and I both agreed that we loved the way they did the ending in the movie, because in the book, certain characters are left hanging and you don't ever know what happens to them. I was very happy with the way that they dealt with these characters.  I can't imagine living in a world without love, color, or feelings. To me, it wouldn't really be living at all if we couldn't have those things. It is such a beautiful film and story.  I walked away from the theater with a deeper appreciation for life's simple moments.
